01 / WHAT THE PRODUCT REVEALS
The truth is in the stream.
Drop any audio or video file and get the full technical truth — every stream, every codec, every value that explains why it won't play, upload, or was rejected.
02 / WHAT IT REVEALS
Every stream, every codec, every metric that matters.
Codecpeek reads the container and every stream inside: video, audio, subtitle, data. It surfaces the handful of values that explain why a file works or does not.
Container info
Format, overall bitrate, duration, metadata tags — the file's basic identity read from the container header.
Video streams
Codec, resolution, frame rate, pixel format, bit depth. Every video stream is unpacked and its properties shown.
Audio streams
Codec, sample rate, channel count, bitrate, language. Each audio stream is diagnosed individually.
Frame thumbnails
Extracted frames at even intervals — see what the video actually looks like, not just a poster frame screenshot.
03 / HOW IT WORKS
One file, one report. No terminal needed.
Upload, wait a moment, read the diagnosis. The file is processed once and deleted.
Drop or browse
Drag any audio or video file onto the upload zone, or click to select one. Up to 50 MB.
ffprobe analysis
The server runs ffprobe internally, reading every stream property and extracting frames.
See the report
A verdict banner flags issues immediately. Stream cards show every property in clear key-value pairs.
Export or copy
Download the full analysis as JSON. Your file is deleted immediately after analysis.
04 / WHY YOU NEED IT
The situations that bring you here.
Each of these has a specific answer inside the file — Codecpeek reads it out.
Why won't this play in my browser?
A codec the browser cannot decode is flagged immediately. H.265, VP9 in an unsupported container, audio at an unusual sample rate — the problem is named.
This file was rejected by my editing software
The container or codec is not what the software expected. Codecpeek shows what is actually inside, not what the filename claims.
Is this H.264 or was it re-encoded?
Stream index 0 shows the real codec, profile, bit depth and pixel format. The truth is in the stream.
Why is the first frame black?
Thumbnails at 20%, 50% and 80% of the duration show you what is actually in the file — not just a screenshot of the poster frame.
05 / SUPPORTED FORMATS
All the common formats, and then some.
Containers: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM. Audio: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WMA, M4A. If a format is not listed, try it — ffprobe supports hundreds more.
Maximum file size: 50 MB.
06 / LIMITS
This product reads. It does not fix.
Codecpeek is a diagnostic instrument, not a conversion tool. It tells you what is wrong; you choose what to do about it.
Codecpeek does not convert, repair, or re-encode files. It reveals; you decide.
Your file is processed on the server and deleted immediately after analysis. Nothing is stored, indexed, or reused.
There is no login, no saved history, no team collaboration. Every visit is anonymous.
The product cannot send alerts, digests, or notifications. There is no email sender in this system.
Larger files cannot be accepted within the current architecture. For bigger files, split them or run ffprobe locally.
07 / PRICING
Free to diagnose. Pro when you need more.
The free tier handles everything most visitors need. The Pro plan unlocks higher file limits and extended analysis for regular use.
